Q: Hey there Bagaholicboy! After coming across your blog, I've begun to fall in love with you and hate you too! I thought I would stop buying bags once I've got the basic bags and stuff, but after reading your blog on a regular basis, I never seem to stop.
Anyway, I've got a pressing question. I'm thinking of getting a wallet for myself but I have no idea where to start. I now own a Bally wallet in Black and I am thinking of getting a new one that has a coin compartment. But before I buy something, I thought it would be good to run it by you first. My requirements are simple. Classic good looks, manly, scratch-proof and the added coin compartment. My budget is around SGD500.
Lukey
A: Dear Lukey, thanks for the email. First up, let me just say I generally abhor the idea of having a coin compartment on the wallet. Why? Because most men end up stuffing the compartment full of coins, which in turn ruins the shape of the wallet. To make things worse, they also like sitting down with the wallet still in the back pocket, which is basically a death sentence for it as it takes on the shape of their butts.
For those of you who are guilty of doing this, stop! Wallets belong in the front pocket, not the back, which is also why you need to keep it trim and not stuffed with receipts, discount cards you never use and namecards that should actually be in your rolodex.
And ladies, if you are reading this, please advise your hubby /boyfriend /brother /father accordingly. Nothing is more unsexy than a worn out wallet thick with everything else but money and bent out of shape.
But back to you Lukey. SGD500 is alot to spend for a wallet, especially now when the sales are still going on. Avoid anything in patent or soft leathers if you want to avoid knicks and scratches showing. Jack Spade has a small selection of wallets at Kate Spade Raffles City Shopping Centre (from SGD250 and up), which I adore. Another one I like is the Louis Vuitton Damier Graphite Multiple Wallet, which is built to last a lifetime, though it costs a wee bit more at SGD615. 3 more brands to check out as well are Gucci, Prada and YSL.
Love, Bagaholicboy

And other bits:
1. Niel, I never like bags in White or Cream as maintenance can be hard. And never just make-do just because it is cheap. Stick with the Mulberry Bayswater I say.
2. Glynis, check out the Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Eva Clutch. It's classy, comes with its own leather sling and can be worn both ways. Best thing, it is under your budget at just SGD815.
3. Eugene, the Graffiti Bandana set comes in all 3 colours and costs SGD615.
4. Paix, when in London, stick to brands that are native to the UK for the best range and prices. Check out Burberry, Chloé and Mulberry for starters.
5. Terry, check out the Agnès b. Voyage Nylon Duffel which currently is available in Red and Black. Large and roomy, it is well thought-out and makes a great gym or travel bag.
6. Sarah, congrats again on your new bags from Louis Vuitton and Gucci. As for your other query, you will get a reply from me soon enough.

I just visited the Louis Vuitton outlet at DFS and was confused when the SA told me that the Graffiti Bandana does not come in a set of 3 and I can buy them individually at $615/pc! She sounded very sure of herself. Earlier the day, I was at the Takashimaya outlet and was checking out the price for the Graffiti Pin Badge. The SA was not sure so he asked for the price list. In between, other SAs chipped in their approximate prices ranging from $700+ to $400+. Just feel that they should be more sure of themselves.
Sometimes it all boils down to having too many products and product lines that everyone gets confused once in a while.
More product training is required for the SAs to be up to par.
And one more thing, the Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse Graffiti Brooch only comes in Orange and Fuschia and retails for SGD615.
Hey Lukey...
can't help but pop in my 2cents worth of thoughts...
if you are getting a wallet...
Get BV...coz of the detailed weaving & nappa leather...
GET BV! :)
BB, you are totally spot on...it's a sin to place the wallet on the back pocket...totally makes your wallet outa shape...
Cheers,
Karen
OMG if you wna get a new wallet, check out Prada! They have this wallet with a coin pouch in swanky red or blue. But the red on at Paragon is sold out so you have to get it at DFS.
